The "Pale Princess." Daughter of Queen Onyxis and Ambassador Serulian, Azuri is the only heir to the Kingdom of Orca. She is a partial albino, like her dad she carries a rare recessive trait that makes her coloring very pale for an Orcan.

Azuri is a sporty tomboy who loves sweets, dislikes being cooped up, and doesn't hate dressing up but does hate dresses that slow her down. Azuri has a wildly free spirit that takes her outside of the palace as often as she can get away, as if she has the soul of a wanderer, as if she were just like her father.

She's so busy trying to make sure she's not defined as "the princess" that she hasn't quite figured out what exactly defines her. She's not a willowy beauty, she doesn't have the most beautiful melodious singing voice, she doesn't just sit there and look pretty but actively engages in anything she fancies. What she doesn't realize yet is she doesn't like to take orders blindly from anyone. This is the beginning of the strong ruling personality she will need as queen, but she's not there yet. Whenever she does have to do what someone says, she convinces herself it's because SHE wants to do it, "because it's the right thing."

Azuri is smart, inherently smart, she just doesn't flaunt it or even use it all the time. She's a kind and deeply caring person who is probably far too trusting. After all, she's never had to deal with betrayal or lies in her entire life, everything has always been right up front. So although she knows in theory that people do lie, she doesn't understand how they could do such a thing.

If she weren't the princess, Azuri would still want to be a politician, and a dance instructor in her spare time. Maybe even a lawyer, because she understands how legal systems work, and wants to do good and help people, make a difference in people's lives so that she'll be remembered even if she thinks she's not the prettiest or the most memorable otherwise.


THALO

Thalo is a jock, liked by everyone he meets, whose motives in life are relatively simple. He likes to push himself to be the best he can be, and have a good time while doing it. Thalo is strong and quick, loves combat and anything to do with martial arts, and generally just likes to throw his weight around to show everybody how awesome he is. He enjoys teaching others and helping them catch up with him so that the overall team can benefit. He feels the best when he sees his friends succeed, after all it's lonely if you're the only one at the top.

Thalo, like many teenaged boys, loves to joke around and poke fun with the guys. Life is meant to be enjoyed and he intends to enjoy it to its fullest. He also has an extremely serious side, after all his position comes with a great deal of responsibility and he knows he must set an example to the other Orcans. Thalo has all the makings of a great general, he just lacks experience and wisdom.

When he was a child, his parents were both head chefs at the royal palace. He learned to cook and played nearly every day with the young tomboyish Princess Azuri. Some years ago his parents retired from working in the palace, and he went away to Orcan military school to learn to become a soldier in the highly respected Orcan army. Thalo graduated early, and was rewarded a position in the highly esteemed Royal Guard where he would be guarding the Princess, much to their mutual delight.

In his spare time, Thalo loves to make his own "surfer" jewelry. He is also an excellent cook.


QUEEN ONYXIS

Descendent from a relatively long line of queens of Orca, Onyxis is a textbook example of what a strong Orcan queen should be. Because the Orcans are a matriarchal society, the queen has absolute power, not the king. Orcan kings are usually just "the royal husband" although most usually have high stature on their own. There is a tradition that the queen chooses her husband from the higher ranks of the military, meaning most Orcan kings are generals or become ambassadors and so still have an important job, even if they're not involved in ruling the kingdom.

Onyxis is a no-nonsense, large and in charge woman who places her people before all else, even herself. This causes her to make self-denial decisions that are often very difficult for her to live with, but she hides this from the public.


MICA

Mica is half-Orcan, half something else (he doesn't even know what), and all complex high-strung teenager. Sapphrie, his Orcan mother, raised him alone from the time he was born. She told him tales of his mysterious father, a lanky dolphin mermaid with markings just like Mica's. Sapphrie met his father on a research expedition to far away seas and fell instantly, madly in love, but the merwhale never came with her to Orca. She hasn't been able to find him again.

So, despite growing up in the cosmopolitan capitol city of Orca, Mica underwent a fair amount of teasing for being of mixed race. He's not pureblood Orcan and it shows, and this wreaks havoc with his sense of self. It causes him to tend to strike first, be cynical and tell others what to do, before they can get a word in edgewise about him.

Mica found himself at the Orcan military school for several reasons and rather unexpectedly. Firstly, as a hybrid he has an amazing singing voice, with more power behind his Breath Blasts than Orcans nearly twice his size. And second... He is a genius for science. Biochemistry is his favorite subject and he excels, and the military school offers excellent classes.

Because of his heritage Mica is extremely self conscious in public, especially in class, and it causes him to make a lot of mistakes, which get him teased, which cause him to make more mistakes... Thalo saw what was happening and "stepped in" before it got out of hand, offering his friendship to Mica, and it's a good thing he did. Thalo was Mica's saving grace during school years away from home. He helped Mica get through the physical parts of training, and Mica helped Thalo with his homework.

Mica's lack of a father figure leaves him searching for one, he finds a brother in Thalo and uses him as a male role model.


OSIDIAN

Captain of the royal guard, Thalo's commanding officer, a grizzled old soldier and Onyxis's trusted advisor. He has no problem putting young Orcan soldiers in their place when they try to swim out of line.
